BOARD EFFECTIVENESS REVIEWS

The effectiveness of Boards and the evaluation of their performance is a hot topic.

The GCG Board Effectiveness Review has been developed over a number of years to provide external evaluation of a Board’s performance and to increase its competence to self-assess in the future.

The Board Effectiveness Review is conducted by experienced consultants over a 42 day period in conjunction with selected non-executive directors and senior managers. We use a variety of methods and tools to evaluate performance and make prioritised recommendations in the areas of:

Boardroom Constitution
Are the basics of good governance and effective Boardroom performance in place?

External Profile Management
Is the Board aware of the risks and opportunities associated with the organisation’s external profile? Are accountabilities clear and are there appropriate structures in place to manage the organisation’s external profile?

Vision & Strategy
Is the board aligned behind a clearly articulated vision and strategy? Are Directors clear on their individual and collective roles in delivering the strategy? Is the constituency of the board appropriate to its vision and strategy?

Director Skill Sets and Performance Management
Do the Board members have the appropriate balance of skills optimally to deliver the desired strategy?  Is there a formal and rigorous objective setting and performance appraisal process in place for the Directors individually and collectively?
